One of the first things that pops out about this new product is the name, "Rich Search Assistant". One of the reasons they are not calling it "Yahoo Instant" was that they had an existing product of that name back in 2005. It seems they were looking for an original name since Google has rolled out their Instant search in October.
Another interesting feature while using the Yahoo Rich Search Assistant is ads will be covered in the previewed results. This could be a potential concern to advertisers, but Yahoo is claiming that ad income has not been impacted. As promising as that sounds, we have to take in to consideration that at this time only 5% of their users have been opted-in to test this new experience.I'm sure as more users test this new product and is made available for the masses, we'll be learning more specifics on the functionality. It will be very interesting to see how this evolves considering all the recent major changes Yahoo has been making.
Please check back soon for more information as it's made available.
