For some it can be a source of contention, confusion and consternation, but in actuality it's really pretty simple - it's about connecting with other people. Basically, you find a site you want to get a link from, contact the site and then make your case as persuasively as possible to get a link. SEOs do this all day long and it has a lot in common with cold calling. However, as a business owner you could be sitting on a mountain of hot link leads and not even know it.

If you are a small business owner, I am willing to bet you have a lot of professional relationships that you could use to snag a targeted anchor text link or two. Chances are that you have networked with other small business owners at professional events, use them as vendors or have them as clients - these are all great connections to ask for a link. Here are 3 easy ways to get links from business you know and work with.

If your business is currently engaged in an SEO campaign, than its safe to say that you periodically check your search engine rankings for some of your more competitive terms. It's great to keep an eye on your organic rankings, but what if I told you that the rankings you are looking at for your site might not be accurate? That's right, the search results you view on your personal computer could be different if you have visited any of the websites that are showing up.

This is due to personalized search: Google tweaking search results on an individual basis due to user's internet history. This might be great for the average search engine user, but it is of zero help when you are trying to manually check your rankings. With a simple change in your Chrome browser settings you can permanently get rid of this headache and start seeing search results as they should be - depersonalized.

You can always go into Google Analytics and see how people are finding your site in general but Google Analytics doesn't report on personal user data, so it doesn't tell you how any specific leads found your site. You would normally have to figure that out for yourself, which depending on lead volume, can be a painstaking process. It would be good to have an easy way to be able to attribute a lead to the specific way they found you...good news, there is! A great way to do this is to have that referrer data inserted (using Javascript) directly into each new lead email you get.

Could this be the start of online advertising superiority over traditional print advertising? I say yes. Over the last 5 years, online advertising has steadily been on the heels of print marketing and advertising. With the innovation of "Smart phones" and tablet PCs making mobile online experiences more common place, online marketers have many more advertising outlets available. This, coupled with the unsurpassed level of data and metrics collected, make it extremely attractive to advertisers focusing on eliminating wasted advertising spend.

Diversified Search is the exclusive US partner of Odgers Berndtson, a global leader in executive search. During the presentation, I’ll have the opportunity to provide a brief overview of Search Engine Optimization, especially as it relates to companies that might not be the earliest adopters of the SEO, PPC, or Local Search services.
The bad news about Google Instant is that it will have no effect on Google Analytics. Query strings will be passed from the search engine to site owners' Analytics accounts without any adjustments necessary. It's an invisible change.
We've already discussed the complications that Instant might have for AdWords users (there are many). And in our first post in this series, we argued that Google Instant's effects on traffic will be indirect, yet significant.
