Yahoo starts to test their answer of Google Instant – “Rich Search Assistant”

By George Zlatin on 11-22-10 in Search Engines, Yahoo Search Marketing
Yahoo has begun to roll out their answer (or version) of Instant search results. Next to their current suggested search topics you get when typing into the search field, they will show a more detailed look at the first result you would see for each query. The provided preview will change as you move through the suggested results.

One of the first things that pops out about this new product is the name, "Rich Search Assistant". One of the reasons they are not calling it "Yahoo Instant" was that they had an existing product of that name back in 2005. It seems they were looking for an original name since Google has rolled out their Instant search in October.

Yahoo-Rich-Assist-beta-exampleAnother interesting feature while using the Yahoo Rich Search Assistant is ads will be covered in the previewed results. This could be a potential concern to advertisers, but Yahoo is claiming that ad income has not been impacted. As promising as that sounds, we have to take in to consideration that at this time only 5% of their users have been opted-in to test this new experience.

I'm sure as more users test this new product and is made available for the masses, we'll be learning more specifics on the functionality. It will be very interesting to see how this evolves considering all the recent major changes Yahoo has been making.

Please check back soon for more information as it's made available.

Google Call Metrics – AdWords Call Tracking?

By Nathan Pabich on 11-03-10 in Google News, PPC
I received an email last night about Google AdWords Call Metrics, which is a new call tracking solution offered right out of your Google AdWords account. You can read more from Google here - http://www.google.com/ads/innovations/callmetrics.html. Basically, Google is offering a free phone number that would be placed next to your PPC ad, similar to many of the other ad extensions (such as maps, products, etc.) they already offer. This is a step in the right direction for sure, but let's look a little closer and see some of the features as compared to a call tracking solution such as the one Digital Third Coast offers.
